The UN helps improve the infrastructure such as roads, schools, hospitals, and telecommunication networks in new emerging countries. Often times the UN will aid rebelling colonies by providing extra resources, money, and sometimes troops.

New Nations Seek Stability

1. Why did many nations win their independence from European rule after WWII?
Colonial empires built by western powers during the age of imperialism crumbled. the likes of Britain and France had exhausted military, and financial resources, and did not desire any further conflict from anyone.
2. How did the cold war undermine imperialism?
U.S. backed the right of colonized people to self-determination. The Soviet Union also had longed condemned western imperialism. Both the U.S. and the Soviet Union searched among the new nations for allies.
Why did many new nations remain unaligned?
In a few regions (where whites settled) colonial rulers were reluctant to leave.
3.How many new countries emerged during the Great Liberation?
Around 90
4. What problems did new nations face while seeking stability?
-New Nations(ex:Nigeria) had different cultural traditions, had few ties to be unite.
-Only few were able sustain democratic rule.
-Many new nations were shaken by revolution or civil war.
-Majority of people were poor and cut off from advancement.

Which European country do we think was most powerful?
- We think Great Britain was the most powerful during the year 1914 because their colonies spread across the continents. The extent of their colonialism is the greatest out of all of the European nations, which include area in square miles, population, area and population of their colonies.
